My name is Scott Duck. Here is a little information about me and how I came to be where I am, in full time Christian ministry.
The most important thing about me is that I am a Christian. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I am now a Christian author, speaker, and preacher, but that is not the profession that I have always had.
I have a business degree. I once worked as the CFO of a local freight hauling and warehousing company. I did that for about five years, before my job was eliminated, due to downsizing. Then, I worked as a medical transcriptionist for about five years, until that position was eliminated, due to budget cuts. That was in the middle of 2012. I then tried to start a management accounting consulting business, which proved to be unsuccessful because the services were too difficult to market. I also tried to get other jobs, also with no success.
There is something that made my search for employment very difficult. I am completely blind, in both eyes. It is certainly possible for a blind person to work. I have worked for most of my adult life. However, it is much more difficult for a blind person to find something that they can do for a living. I can’t do 90% of the jobs out there. For the jobs that I can do, it is difficult to convince the potential employer of my capabilities.
So, finally, I decided to try something different. I have always loved reading. In general, I like a good novel better than a movie. Probably at least in part because I can get more details from a book than from a movie which, of course, is very visual. Many people like to watch a lot of TV. I do watch (or listen to) some TV but I also read probably around 100 novels per year. When reading a novel, I have often wondered if I could do that, if I could write a novel that would be as good as those of my favorite authors (Dean Koontz, Steven King, John Grisham). I decided to give it a try. I found that I really enjoy writing and I think that I did a pretty good job with my first book, “In Full View”, originally published January 2014.
In May of 2014, I felt the call of the Lord to use my writing to further his kingdom. As the beginning of my fulfillment of that call, I re-released “In Full View” as a Christian novel. Over the years, God has lead and empowered me to do many other things in His service. I have written other Christian books, fiction and nonfiction. I give my Christian testimony for church congregations, telling of what God has done in and through me, both despite and because of my blindness and how He is ready to do the same in their own lives, both in spite of and by using their hardships. I preach, filling in when pastors are out of town, revivals, homecomings, etcetera. I have a YouTube channel and I do some audio podcasting. I post online articles. If God opens a door, I walk through it. I can’t wait to see what door He will open next. I’m not looking for a job any more. I have found the work that God put me here for.
